IB Diploma Programme (DP)

We cater to students studying many IB Diploma Programme courses.

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature

Students must take at least one subject from this group, and taking two subjects in different languages is one way of obtaining a bilingual diploma. The language chosen from this group is generally the student's native language or one in which the student is academically competent, and is taken at either Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL).

The Studies in Language and Literature subject group offers students a choice of the following three courses:

Language A: Literature (SL/HL)

This course is automatically available in 55 languages, and for any other language that has sufficient written literature by special request. It is organized into three areas of exploration and seven central concepts, and focuses on the study of literary works. Together, the three areas of exploration of the course add up to a comprehensive exploration of literature from a variety of cultures, literary forms and periods.

The course introduces the critical study and interpretation of written and spoken texts, and students develop skills of literary and textual analysis, as well as the ability to present their ideas effectively.

Literature and Performance (SL)

This course is automatically available in English, and in Spanish and French by special request. Its main aim is to explore the relationship between literature and theatre, and it is organized into three parts, each focused on a different aspect of literature and performance. Together, the three parts of the course cover the critical study of literary texts, the exploration of chosen approaches to a text, and the realization of texts in performance.
