International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme

Our tutors can teach many subjects in accordance with the International Baccalaureate (IB) DP, MYP and PYP curricula.

At Elite Tutoring College, our tutors are able to teach many subjects in accordance with both the NSW NESA Curriculum, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.

What is the IB?

The IB is an international not-for-profit educational foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland, which offers educational programmes for children globally. As of 2 April 2020, there were 6,995 IB programmes being offered worldwide across 5,278 schools in 158 countries.

The objective of the IB is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organisation works with schools, governments and international organisations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

The IB's learner profile represents its mission in action, and concisely describes the aspirations of a global community that shares the values underlying the IB's educational philosophy. The IB learner profile describes the attributes and outcomes of education for international-mindedness. IB learners strive to be:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

The curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, and at least 50 hours of teaching time is required for each subject group, in each year of the programme.

Primary Years Programme

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a programme for students aged 3 to 12 years. It prepares students for the Middle Years Programme, however it is not a prerequisite for it. PYP students are guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, and deepen their learning by developing conceptual understandings; strengthening their knowledge and skills across and beyond subject areas. Students are required to learn a second language during the PYP programme.
